I have about 100 avent bottles...and I'm not even joking. In my opinion they work okay...sometimes they leak and sometimes it seems like my son is getting lots of air. It just depends on the day I think. :-) A friend of mine used avent but changed to the playtex drop ins because she could squeeze a majority of the air out and you don't have that option with Avent. She said that her son likes them best and they are way less expensive than avent. Also when I first gave my son avent bottles his lips got really chapped from the nipple..(I think)...but it went away once he got used to the size of it. I tried switching my son to the playtex but he didn't like the nipple so we are continuing with the Avent...which when they are working right, they are good! Good Luck!
If you would like to try Avent email me and I can send you a couple bottles all you would need to do is purchase the nipples...the bottles are about 5 bucks each!! Then you could see if your son likes them or not before you go out and spend the money....

I too bought the Dr Brown bottles for my son since everyone was raving they were so awesome but he didnt like them at all. I purchased the Avent bottles and he seems to enjoy them much more and plus you dont have the little pieces in the middle of the bottle that sometimes get lost.

I just thought that it was a lot of work to clean those Dr. Brown bottles. The Avent nipples are great because they are wide and flat instead of standing up like most nipples. But then again it is all about preference....baby's that is.

It is not the bottle that is the problem. You baby is not dumb, he is smart. He doesn't want that plastic thing. He wants you and he knows the difference!
You can try different bottles, but the best thing to do is be consistent. Are you going to stop breastfeeding. I knew someone who had to completely stop breastfeeding in order for her baby to take bottles. Try and have someone else give him the bottle, and go in another room. Or leave the house. Do not breastfeed if he complains - that will just teach him that he will eventually get what he wants if he holds out long enough.
Try the bottle for a bit. If it doesn't work, give it a break, 10 or 15 minutes, then try again. Keep this up until he finally takes it. Eventually he will get hungry enough to take it.
Also - pick a bottle and stick to it. Using different nipples might confuse him more.

My baby doesn't like them, either. I think they are too fast; their level 1 are much faster than any other level 1 nipples. I use other nipples with Dr. Brown's bottles, and they work just fine.
By the way, I think Dr. Brown's bottles are the best. If you want to try some other ones, I would recommend also VentAire by Playtex.

You can buy teats which are very close to the nipple in texture and also work using a similar action. Your baby may prefer these and will help stop him from rejecting your breast when he's fed using the bottle. I personally prefer Avent though for my baby.

My son is partial to the Gerber bottles and nipples...I'm not talking about the nuk ones just the regular nipples...your son may be different, though because you breastfeed, but try Gerber...those bottles are also great for when he learns to hold the bottle on his own because they are light and thin...plus they aren't as expensive as Dr. Browns or Avent.

Each baby is different, I tried all the expensive bottle with my first child and finally found that the cheap Parents Choice brand from walmart worked the best for us, it wasnt even the bottle to say, it was actually the nipple. The have teething nipples on their bottles with little bumps on the and have sworn by them even through my newest child who is 3 months

Save yourself some grief and don't worry about the nipple brand name and the bottle brand name matching, they all fit about the same. As to your question, only your baby can tell you what the best nipple is for him or her so buy a couple of different kinds and see which the baby likes the best.

My daughter hated all those fancy ones, especially Avent. We ended up throwing them away and just buying the cheaper Gerber bottles and nipples-she loves them!
