Is it because of this : For example, does the Americans hate the French because they think the French hate them? Or the other way around?.....or is this all just a big hyped up lie?....Ok, lol, thats alot of questions isn't. Thanks for the answers!

The only time the French ever helped the US was in the revolution. Around 1800, the US and France were engaged in a quasi-war (US won). Since then, we have been saving France's butt. WWI, WWII, Vietnam was a French problem, and now Lebanon. Also, Rwanda was a French/Belgian colony. The French still have a misguided idea about being some kind of world power. Many French appreciate the US, but many despise the US. The French have a slight superiority complex. For example, every few years, non-French words are purged from the French language.

Part of the reason why many Americans hate the French is because the French have a nasty habit of always seeming to oppose US plans, especially now that the USSR is gone. For many years, France wasn't even part of NATO.

From reading Yahoo answers I got the feeling that the Americans are the ones who are more aggressive towards the French and not the other way around. But in truth, I do not know the answer to your question. Anyway I like the citizens of both countries. God bless them both.

Bonjour!!

I live in france. The french government hates the American government, but the french people like the American people. The french hate our politics, but not our people. Conservatives have put out a lie stating that the french people hate Americans. That is far from true.

I suggest that everybody compare the google number of results between the sentence "I hate the French" (28 600) and "Je déteste les Américains" (55) or "Je hais les Américains" (48).

Recently many conservative media personalities and politicians have made deliberate efforts to exacerbate the anti-French sentiment. So my theory is that you expect people to react against you as you are doing against them. We hadn't any "anti-american" campain in the French press, that's why French are not hating the American people.

I'm an American and I have the deepest respect for the French. And the only reason SOME Americans dislike the French is because they wouldn't support our dishonest war is Iraq. The French tried to tell us it was a mistake invading Iraq, and we turned our backs on one of our closest allies all because they wouldn't support a lie. We owe our existence as a nation to France and we turned our backs on them, all because they tried doing us a favor.

1956, Suez Canal.

In 1956 when Nasser annex the Suez canal Britain and France cooked up a crazy plan to force Egypt out of the Suez using an Israeli excursion into the Sinai as cover.

President Eisenhower pulled the right strings however (Britain was broke Eisenhower manipulated the IMF threatening to cut off funds to Britain) and killed the Brits and French plan to to take back the Suez militarily as "peace keepers".

Since that time the French have hated the influence Americans have had over European affairs.

The EU was basically a French scheme to counter balance American influence in Europe.

no, i'm french, and we don't hate americans especially, we know everyone is different in a same country; We like great people, from all around the globe, like we hate dumbs, wherever they came from.
Personally, even I only went once over there, I like US and its people, his spirit of freedom.

we just could disagree your govnt politics and military actions, like we dislike ours politics points of view. We don't have to agree or follow if we think it"s a bad way; have we been wrong?
Europe have been the bloodiest battleground of history, so trust me when I say we (europeans) know what wars cost and lead to; people get killed for big corporations and politics assets. Families get destroyed.
Wars have to be settled only if there's no other choice.

But we know; like in every country, that your politics don't represent the whole US people.
We could be arrogant, proud, sure, but aren't you?. In fact, we might be closer that we could imagine

by the way, I 'm gonna shut up some urban legends:
we don't eat frogs or snails (for all my life I never saw someone eat that kind of food; it should be less than 0,01 percent of poplutation who eat that once.). We only eat snakes or fried scorpions (what a lovely taste, I love them at breakfast.....) lol

We don't as far as I know. Bush and his cronies don't speak for all of us you know.
The French oppose the USA's imperialist stance in the world (now that they no longer have one themselves that is, and good for them). Our current and noticeably feeble-minded leader and his VP, Satan Jr., hate anyone who doesn't agree with them. They only like yes-men and yes-countries.
I think the French are within their rights to say no to war, and I think that if you go to France you will be pleasantly surprised to find out how friendly, smart, and sweet they are as a people.

Americans hate french because we think that they are lazy as crap and snobby as crap. French hate americans because we do so much messed up stuff and butt our noses into everyone elses business.

The French have not been true allies of the U.S. in decades, since they opted to blindly support the Arab countries.

With its gutless, pityful leader in Jacques Chirac, France is still trying to figure out when to surrender to the Muslim youths that are terrorising its nation.

However, culturally, the French love everything American. The world over is green with envy of America, and that is part of the reason they love to hate the U.S. Lets not even mention of ingrates the French are about everything the U.S. has done for them.....
