It doesnt matter what you major in. you could even major in a non-science subject. this would make you stand out more to the medical school admissions committee. you could major in spanish, for example, and then write an essay about how you want to serve minorities, or you could major in women's studies since you want to be an ob/gyn. as long as you take a year of organic chem, gen chem, bio and calculus. you will meet all the pre-reqs for medical school.
p.s. the science you learn as an undergraduate is nothing like the science you will learn in medical school, therefore, it is not too important to waste your time with it. You should try reading the book, "How to get into medical school today."

also in reference to the comment about microbiology helping you if you want to be a researcher, that is not true. you can learn any field of science and become an AIDS researcher.

Biochemistry will probably give you a better overall view of the sciences. If you want to be a researcher (someone who discovers cures for cancer and AIDS and whatnot), you might want to try out Microbiology. Check and see if the University you want to go to has a program geared towards those heading for a medical profession, as they would probably be able to answer this question better than most on this site (myself included).

Since you will be learning so much about the body in medical school, how about focusing on the mind for your undergraduate work and major in Psychology. It will come in handy for your bedside manner. You can always minor in Health as well. For your general studies, sure, take all the science you can... but be advised you'll have tons more in medical school. Broaden your perspective and consider the alternatives I've given. I've taught school for over 20 years and have advised many on careers. One more thing: How about cold-calling some doctors over the telephone and briefly explain your situation... ask THEIR opinion. But remember, in the final analysis it's your call... follow your heart.
