I would, for sure! The electricity bill will be a nice surprise when you get back! If you are getting a newspaper subscription, you should call them and they'll stop delivering for the time you're away, too. ( helps keep people from knowing you're not there) And if you have a mailbox at your house, check with the post office as well.

Well, you dont "have to", if you want to pay extremely high bills for nothing...
Lets figure it out, your not there, your still cooling the house... a couple of weeks is a lot of electricity.
Now, what I would do, is have someone you know, (relative, neighbor, friend), give them the key and call them a day before you come home. This way, your A/C will have time to cool the house, and equalize it, if you do decide to save electricity, (also the economy), and money at the same time.
Or, I would set it up to 85 or higher, and leave it at that... (there really isnt any sense in wasting the A/C components for a few weeks that your not going to be there).
BUT, if you live in a "high humidity" area of the Country, and you keep your house at a certain humidity level, then I would leave it on, if your afraid that if you turn it off, mold will start forming on the walls.
I wish you well..

That all depends on where you live. Here in Texas where it is real humid it would be a bigger waste of money to turn it off. You would come home to a hot and muggy house and the A/C would run for two hours to remove all of the heat that has accumulated in the walls and furniture as well as the air. The Condenser unit of a home A/C system runs on 220v. Rule of thumb is to set the thermostat at a temp you are comfortable at and forget it. While on vacation turn the thermostat up to a higher temp but leave it on. If you live in a dry arid climate then it may be ok to turn it off.

Of course. Even if you don't care about the money you will be saving, you will also be reduing the amount of electricity you use, which in most places is generated by coal and natural gas, creating pollution and global warming. So I think you should turn off your
AC when you are going to be gone for even one day and even consider turning it off when you are home and it is not too hot outside.

sure why not save the price of electricity but you could buy a timer type programable thermostat and then set it to cool the house the day you arrive back or just have the person getting your mail and watching the house turn it on the night before

We turn ours off completely when we leave the house for that length of time.
Another option is to leave the key with a trusted neighbor and ask him to keep an eye out if you're going to leave the a/c on.'

yes, if you leave the ac off during a vacation, you can close all curtains and all electricity off it will stay fairly cool while you are gone.

adjust it to a higher temp (if you usually keep it at 70, turn it up to 75 or so), but if you turn it completely off, it'll leave a musty smell, and have to work harder to return it to a comfortable temp when you get back.
