0=1/6y+8
0-8=1/6y+8-8 step 1 subtract 8 from each side
-8=1/6y
-8 x 6= 1/6y x 6 step 2 divide each side by 1/6 (multiply by 6)
-48 = y

Basically you want to get rid of everything that is on the same side of the variable (y) until all that is left is 1 number and the variable.

If your question is 0 = (1/6) y + 8; Solution is: 1 / 6 y = - 8 (multiply each side by 6)
y = -8 * 6
y = -48

ok first things first you need to get variables on one side and numbers on the other so subtract 8 from both sides

0-8=1/6y + 8 - 8
-8 = 1/6y

then isolate y by multiplying both sides by 6
-8 * 6 = 1/6y *6

so -48 = y
