And so far every answer has been incorrect.

The longest lived animals are sponges, which are effectively immortal. The oldest known sponges are over 1, 000 years old.

Sponges are such simple animals that they do not age, they never grow old and because they can regenerate all body parts they are very difficult to kill.

When it comes to living long, slow and steady wins the race. Few animals live longer than certain species of tortoises and turtles. Here are the longest recorded life-spans for earth's champions of old age.

1. Giant Tortoise 200 years

2. Oregon Sturgeon 150

3. Eastern Box Turtle 123

4. Human (Jeanne Calment) 121

Most would say theTurtle.

However, discoveries of antique ivory spear points in living Bowhead Whales in 1993, 1995 and 1999 have triggered further research based on structures in the whale's eye, leading to the reliable conclusion that at least some individuals have lived to be 150–200 years old (another report has said a female at the age of 90 was allegedly still reproductive).

Like everyone said, turtles. There is another long living animal, a geoduck. Google it, those things are weird. I saw them on 'Dirty Jobs' Very interesting creatures. I think they said they could live 140 years.
