every so often i will get a warning that my "virtual memory" is low and windows is increasing it etc.
i am not running any more than i ever do.
i am running winxp pro.

Press right click on "My Computer" from the desktop and scroll down to "propeties" then go to "advanced" tab and click on "settings" button under performance subject then go to "advanced" tab and click on "change" from bottom then increase the 2 boxes below on all drives to double then press OK on all windows open and restart your computer and you're done.

That means that you are running too many programs. It may even be that you don't even know that these programs are running because they start up when you start your computer.

To help with this, go to Start >>Run, and type in MSCONFIG
go to the last tab, it should say Startup, and uncheck all the things that you do not need/want to start up when you start your computer.

Restart and you may not continue to get this error. And remember to restart your computer periodically anyway and it should help you out a lot!

If none of this helps, then you may just have too little memory in your computer and should consider purchasing and installing more RAM.
