Depends on the child, if you know then well enough, each child is different.

My 8 year old could care less about toys actually hates most of them,,, but good books about subjects she likes is all she needs. She also likes stylish clothes and shoes, purfumes and even movies and games.

Boys are different and so are girls, you need to judge the child or children get to know them a bit... because there is a child next door, same age as mine and is also a girl and is like night and day compared to my daughter, that is why they are not friends.

The best bet is a gift card to a parent approved store.

Depends if they are girls or boys. Some kids like video games, others like sports. I always give a gift card and a small toy or a cool t-shirt.

A book is always a good present.
Try "Matilda", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or "James and the Giant Peach"

Depends if it's a girl or a boy. I suggest you go to a toy store and ask them. It would help if you personally know this kid too.

Find out what they are interested in, or ask their parents or take them shopping without buying and they can give you a wish list to choose from, then you can go and make your purchase with the information they have given you.
