The first one:

x-number of 60 second comercials
(12-x)-number of 30 second comercials

60x + 30(12-x)=600(6 minute=600 seconds)

60x+360-30x=600
30x = 240
X=8

He played 8 long ones.

12-8=4, he played 4 short comercials.

the second one:

G:B=5:3

5x - 3 = 3x + 3
2x = 6
X = 3

5×3=15
3×3=9

15 girls, 9 boys. Uh, what a party.

I hope this helps you.

1. u gotta make two equations for this one. Let the 30 sec commercials be x, and the 60 sec commercials be y.

ok then, we can see that the first equation wud be
x + y = 12

secondly,
30x + 60y = 600 (because 10 minutes = 600 seconds)

now, when u solve the above equations:
u get
x = 4 = no. of 30-sec commercials
y = 8 = no. of 60-sec commercials

2. Equation time again. Suppose girls are G, and boys B.

G/B = 5/3 (simple, right)

and
B+3 = G-3

by solving the above 2 equations, u get
B = 9 = no. of boys
G = 15 = no. of girls

dont i deserve a thank-u for this ?!
:)

There are 600 seconds in ten mins. (60*10=600) So you divide 600by 30 thats gives ya 20 times, divide 600 by 60 that gives you 10. Sooo 10 60 sec commercials or 20 30 sec commercials

8 60 second commercials = 480 seconds, and
4 30 second commercials=120 seconds
12 commercials = 600 seconds or exactly 10 minutes.

There were 15 girls and 9 Boys.

10=x(0.5) + y
12= x + y
12-x = y
Substituting
10 = x(0.5) + 12 - x
-2 = -0.5 x
4 = x, 8 = y
So there are 4 thirty 30 second commercials, and 8 sixty second commercials.

x/y=5/3 or 3x=5y
x-3=y+3, or x = y+6
substituting,
3y+18=5y, or 2y =18,
y=9, x=15 (from x=y+6)
so there are 15 girls and 9 boys.
