Praying mantis is an insect which serves as an indicator that the air is not yet polluted. But if you were not able to see one, then that's the time you can definitely conclude that the air is polluted.

... are awesome at playing "insect battle"!!! Get two praying mantises, very carefully (they bite hard as hell) tie a piece of long thread around their thoraxes, and place them in front of eachother and enjoy the action.
