Russian Tortoise Questions???

Question

1. How often do they eat? How much?
2. Do i leave the heat light on all day?
3. Would anything happen if i took it with me somewhere for about 4-5hrs?
4. Anything i should know?

1. Babies eat daily, young eat every other day, adults eat every 3 days. Amount is between 1 and 2 times the size of the head. Diet must be well-balanced and the right kind of food, supplemented with vitamins and calcium.

2. Heat lamp should be on as long as necessary- the temps should be monitored with thermometers. The best sytems are thermostatically driven so the heat turns on and off at preset temps.

3. Depends totally on a few points. a.) ANYTHING like that creates a little stress. b.) Will it be transported in a safe container that offers a good habitat? c.) Is the other place nice enough to justify ripping it fom its home?

4. You really need to research this rather awkward species. This is not an easy pet and it has pretty specific needs that the pet shop might not have told you about.

They eat everyday. How much depends on their size.
Lights on 12 hours, off 12 hours.
It depends on the temperature of the car, but probably not.
It will definitely outlive you, so make plans.
