I am thinking of buying a new latop, i am student and run some math software - nothing too fancy. I dont use that machine for games. Should i get a new laptop soon, or wait till vista comes out?, If i get one now could i installl vista on it later.

Can anyone recomend good specs for a vista and non vista laptop?

I would buy a Dell or Toshiba laptop. Most now come with at least 512 RAM (Which the minimum I recommend) and get a Pentium IV 3GHz or better.

Many here will recommend Macintosh, but while they're good - you will pay a lot more for it generally and the software is not as freely available or cheap as PC software is.

I have been working PCs for 12 years and have had very little major issues with them.

As for Vista - hold off on Microsoft software for at least 6 months after they put it out, since they always have bugs that need to be fixed when it first comes out.

best laptop is based on the brand maker and components ....it doesnt matter what OS it runs

i suggest SONY VAIO laptops from the brand SONY

may be with 1 gb ram and sufficeint GB s of harddisk

if u want non vista OS then 512 MB ram is enough
else if u want vista OS then go for 1 gb

coz for better performance VISTA needs minimum RAM needed is 512MB

Check out the Apple, It can run Mac OS and Windows. Running under Mac OS you have a very stable, versatile system.

Running under windows, you are vulnerable to viruses, lock ups and the blue screen of death.

I am a Mac owner.

Toshiba Satellite, A105-S1014.. I have one and love it, just make sure that what you buy is compatible with vista.
