Chevy Venture Van's Instrument Panel and Radio lights go off at night after 30 minutes driving (or when the head lights are purposely switched-on during daytime)

Hello, Folks,

My 1997 Chevy Venture Van's Instrument Panel lights, including the time/radio display go dark at night although all electrical: headlights, turn lights, radio work well.

That means AT NIGHT, I cannot read my speed, temperature, and fuel meters, neither time/radio station display.

This problem only occurs after 30 minutes driving at night (or when the headlights are purposely switched-on during daytime). The output voltage of the “headlamp & Instrument Panel (I/P) Lamp Dimmer Switch” becomes 0 from its normal value of 12v.

I REPLACED THE HEADLAMP & I/P DIMMER SWITCH with one that I bought from eBay (probably coming from a junkyard). The problem persists, and exactly the same.

What is my next step? Is that possible the replacing switch is again a bad one?

Again, all other electrical lights - fr

Sounds like a bad ground wire somewhere, either corroded of loose.

Are you sure you don't just have the dash illumination dimmer turned down? In any case, I'd guess that's where the problem is - either the knob is turned down, or it's bad.

DRL module is most likely the problem.
