The finger was first used by pornagraphic web sites to create a sense of interacting with the pictures you want to enlarge. However, Microsoft removed the jerking motion of the hand after the picture was clicked.

When the arrow turns into a hand with a pointing finger, you can click the word, button, or other control on the page.

Do you manually hover over the words? If so, it's your computer's cursor settings alerting you to a hypertext link on the Internet. It lets you know that that word has some sort of extra functionality and may take you to another webpage if clicked. You can change this through your control panel cursor settings.

If not, you may have a setting under control panel mouse settings set to jump to the active thing on the page.

Hope that helps!

The mouse "arrow" shows you where you are and the "hand" will let you connect to an item if you "click" your mouse. It's like the expression....."the hand will lead the way". Such is with the arrow changing into the hand....the hand will lead the way.
