I accidentially slipped 2 coins behind the horn of a 2003 GM truck. NOw, whenever the steering wheel turns, or the door slams, the horn just honks randomly. what can I do, and will removing the horn part on the steering wheel activate the airbag?

...actually you can remove the airbag and take out the two coins.

On the back side of the steering wheel you'll find four holes. You'll need a small screwdriver. Put the screwdrive STRAIGHT into the holes and turn. There is a spring loaded catch behind each hole. When you have successfully disengaged the fastener the corner of the airbag will pop out of the steering wheel. When you get all four to realease, you can take the airbag off, and recover the coins. Carefully line up the clasps and push the airbag back on. It will snap in place.

It is a good idea to disconnect the main battery while you're doing all this.

...oh, and contrary to some opinions expressed, you're not going to be able to set off the airbags with a couple of coins. The connectors are quite well protected back there. You'll find a yellow cable and a sliding retainer pin. The connector in the airbag has two recessed pins and the cable connector is rather deep. The cable itself has two layers of insulation.

you need to take this to the dealership so they can remove your steering wheel and remove the 2 coins that are grounding out your horn to make it honk randomly

The airbags on your vehicle have a charge equal to a 12 guage shot gun and have been know to break the necks of people who don't where there seat belts This is NOT something you should do at home

that truck you have to disengage the air bag by pushing a clip wire with a flat screwdriver that releases the air bag from the steering wheel remove the coins and just snap the back bag in with a click. have some one hold the bag so it won't fall and damage the wires. You will not even disconnect the bag from the car do this with the key turned off wait ten minutes then do the work above.

As much as I hate to say it, take the car to a QUALIFIED mechanic and get those coins out. they could trigger the airbag or cause a fire. You can find the horn and unplug the wire going to it TEMPORARILY . it usually plugs into the horn at the horn it'self.

first of all, i would get those coins. they are probably shorting your horn. and it shouldnt activate the airbag if you know what you are doing, removing the horn part.
