The guy I bought it off of said that the oil had just been changed by this garage and they'd put some kind of 'snythetic' oil in it. He didn't say what kind, and I have no idea what that means. Any ideas? Thanks!

Whatever oil you decide to use, don't mix synthetic and regular motor oil. They're not compatible with each other. You don't really know what type of oil the garage used. (You don't even know if it was changed it at all). Whenever you buy a used bike, the first thing you should do is change the oil. (No matter what the previous owner says). Drain the crankcase and fill it with the type of oil you're going to continue to use. Ride your bike for 100mi and change the oil again.

Go with the weight that your manual says to. Yamalube is a rip off. go with the synthetic type, it lasts longer and is better for your engine. It doesn't completely "drain" to the bottom of the engine after shutdown. It adheres to the internal engine parts better for a smoother startup. Just stay away from oil that has the "fuel conserving" printed in the little rating ring on the back of the bottle, bad for the clutch, makes it slip.
