couldn't have said it any better myself....i will expound though.
carter very recently (the same OVERSEAS speech you're referring to i believe) was b i t c h i n about the economy and blaming bush for that as well. ummmm, excuse me, weren't interest rates at 18% when he was in office? didn't he preside over the arab oil embargo and subsequent gas lines? how about inflation?
yeah, that's what i thought too.....what a friggin HYPOCRITE!!!!!!
the peanut man is the biggest disgrace this country has known since the aforementioned benedict arnold!!!!

Americans are too easily deceived. I truly believe one of the main reasons so many people have a good feeling about Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton is attributable to their frequent smiling. Seriously.
People see Bill Clinton's "aw-shucks" smile, and they assume he is a much kinder person than he really is. Same for Carter. Most people have never seen these two when the cameras stop rolling. The problem with seeing through the Carter facade is that his face almost seems perpetually frozen in a smile. People just assume that means he's some nice, happy person. Wrong!
I guess they can't name every sub and ship the "Ronald Reagan", so let's just consider this "sloppy seconds" for Carter.

There is excellent historical records on the fact Irans' government thought they were in big trouble when the students took over our embassy and took the hostages. These records show they (the government there) were trying hard in the early days to get the release of the hostages for they feared American military retaliation, but after a few weeks of Carter begging and taking no action they learned different. And they learned they can eaisly push America around; a fascist nation was born. No submarine for that kind of incompetence, 20 years later 3,000 American's died for it.

This is a pretty short-sighted view of history. To attribute the problems in the Middle East to the one person whose peace treaty (Egypt-Israel) is actually holding strong today, while ignoring the Treaty of Versailles demonstrates that you don't know your history.
Carter wasn't a fantastic president, but he kept the country going during an oil embargo. He also managed to not sell weapons to Saddam Hussein or to the Taliban, unlike Reagan.

I could not agree more and to my everlasting shame, I voted for Jimmy Carter in my third grade mock election. I have not voted for a Democrat since. Because I voted for him i paid attention to him and what I saw was a beaten old man. When Reagan came along I saw someone who would not let America be a victim ever. I wish I was old enough to vote for Reagan, for real, in 1984. But I did vote for him in my High School mock election and have never regretted it.
I agree Carter is unworthy of the honor.

You are wrong. I agree with Jimmy Carter. You are picking on an old man because he made some observations that MOST of the world agrees with. You should be ashamed.

His administration was not nearly catastrophic, it was overly catastrophic. Nobody seems to remember the (very liberal) nightly news giving its 'misery index' every night. How about the 22% mortgage rates? Inflation over 10%? Unemployment over 7.5%? Nah...
