mairimac: i did understand it , but as someone as wrote , they hang arond an awful lot ,, that's what i cannot understand , not much of a war movie

It`s a true depiction of what it was like for U.S. Marines in the first Gulf War since it is taken from Swoff`s autobiography.
War is like that a lot of the time - hours and hours of inactivity and minutes of fighting.
Of course the S.A.S. is the best - they already have their missions BEFORE they go into action.

The movie Jarhead was set in the Gulf War, and not a whole lot of people got killed in the Gulf War. So that explains why they were just hanging around the whole movie. The movie is based on a true story, and it would be misleading and fictional if the movie had intense war sequences.

In order to get all the soldiers out to was in extreme conditions, they were all hyped up to be 'killing machines', however due to the nature of the war, many did not even get to fire a weapon. A lot of this film was related to the extreme frustration felt by the soldiers when the ideology which had been drilled into him could not be realised.

It was not a war movie per, it just showed what it,s like to join up and the 95% boredom and 5% of terror of what most military action is. Give me the boredom anyday.

It was quite a frustrating movie as they couldnt kill anybody... it was funny but i totally agree that it wasnt a war movie...
It wasnt good, mostly because it wasnt interesting it was a little boring... i wanted some more action.... really dissappointing...
