No it does not load itsself. What you have to do is install it as the D: disk and copy the entire C: disk over to it. Then pull the C: disk and put the D: disk where the C: was. You will also have to format the disk after you install it in your computer. If you windows xt it should install automatically. If you have a previous version of windows, you will have to set the jumper switches on the drives, both drives c: as master d: as slave. Then when you replace your old c: with the new c: you will have to reset the jumper switch again, this time to the 1 disk setting, I forget the terminalogy for that setting.

The drive should work fine on your computer.

If your computer is very old it may not recognize the complete size of the drive, but there should be software with the drive to overcome that problem. So after you install the drive if the system does not recognize the size, you will need to run the software.

well....if only it was that easy. a bigger hard drive is indeed better than a dead one, but there are some things you must do first. it will work with your computer as long as it's the same format as the old one. IDE hard drives have a wide flat cable while sata hard drives take a smaller flat cable. make sure they both take the same cable. then swap out the drives and start your computer(boot up). put your operating disk into the cd drive and shut it off and restart it(reboot). when prompted(asked) boot from the cd. if you are installing win xp, you will be prompted to create a primary partition. you must do this with any windows o/s. with xp, you want to create an ntfs partition using all the available disk space. follow the prompts to do this. then you must format the partition. Again follow the prompts(are we having fun yet?). then win xp will start the installation. win 98/ME is even a bigger pain in the butt to do, if you need to, e-mail me and i will walk you through it......congratulations on taking a major step to total computer geekdom

i take advantage of the two transportable 2.5 inch complicated drives and usb flash drives. yet now that usb flash drives have become bigger and greater fee-effective, I even have presently began utilising them completely rather of the two.5 inch complicated drives. i take advantage of an 8 gig one at artwork the place they anticipate us to keep all of our information on the shardcontinual (which from time to time crashes), I keep them rather on the 8 gig flashcontinual. i latterly offered a sixteen gig flashcontinual for $40 4 USD. The 32 gig ones are nevertheless too plenty $$$

More detail would help like:
1. What type of PC
2. What operating system
3. Size of old drive
4. Size of new drive.

No problem, just plug it in, make sure the jumper settings are correct and boot with your OS cd.

if you have a newer computer, the firmware in the BIOS will automatically scan the new drive and adjust for it. other computers you might have to go into setup and manualy enter the drive info. good luck

Take that new drive, stick it in your puter and go go go. and do it before the old one dies, so you can transfer all the data you want to keep into the new one.
