Why are nipples such a controversial topic in a modern society ?

Judging from public outrage to Janet Jacksons revealing half-time performance it would seem that American society has a love-hate relationship with the "nipple". There is no good answer for this question. Personally some primetime television is worse then a nipple slip. Everything now a days is advertised with Sex! Look at half the magazines out there, there is always someone half naked, or prime time tv. has gone as far as showing asses. It is just another way for the goverment to manipulate and take money. The nipple is part of nature which God gave us there is nothing gross about that!

I know it, man! I am breastfeeding my daughter and I cannot believe how insane people are about it. I am very careful not to expose myself when I must nurse in public, but once at the beach, some woman screamed claiming that she saw my nipple. I wondered why she was watching so closely if she was going to get so offended.

People act horribly every day and yet, they think that if they act totally overly moral about something as natural and wonderful as a nipple then it erases their sins or something. Somewhere along the road, false shame or modesty of the body replaced actually being a good person.

This question is particularly interesting to me because I am breastfeeding. I mean, the nipple was meant for feeding babies before it made it's debut in a porno, folks!

People in our society are much more uptight about simple bare skin - including nipples - than in most other cultures. I go to the nude beach many times during the summer and enjoy the pleasure of being naked at the beach on a great day. People there are cool with nudity so they don't get offended...plus, most people there are naked themselves so there's no big deal.

Here in NY it's legal for a girl to go topless anyplace a guy can, so you'll see more girls topless on even regular (clothed) beaches...but make no mistake about it, they get their share of dirty looks and nasty comments, mostly from prudish women who find the display of a bare boob "disgusting".

Bottom line, my point is that our society is SLOWLY coming to accept more casual nudity in appropriate situations (beach, pool, hot tub, etc.) but it's not going to happen overnight. We need more girls and women exercising their right to be topless or nude in appropriate situations to keep this trend alive.

When your a teenage boy you fight to see them becuase they are sexualized to you and the girls at that point. That is the simplest explanation of why they are so controversial to people. This changes everything if the woman is like me and decides breast is best for the baby. That part of our body is no longer for sexual pleasure but for bonding and nourishing the beautiful little creature we have waited so long to meet. It becomes more amazing than any part of our body ever could be and becomes an embaracement for people all over the country. I fed my child when he was hungry and it did not matter to me who was there either. I did not just pop out my breast and thrust it into my childs mouth and most of the time no body even noticed that my child was nourishing his body with my breast. When someone did notice there was sometimes words or red faces (not mine). My cousin was taking a picture of me with his phone once while I was nursing because he didn't realize that was what I was doing and the whole family got a great laugh out of that one. He was red for weeks I think because my sister asked him why he was taking a picture of his cousin breast feeding her son. I've been told there are better places to feed my son then in public and I have never gotten into an actual fight over it but I think that I would have if I had been in some of the circumstances of friends of mine. One girlfriend actual had her mother tell her at a resteraunt to go into the bathroom to feed her newborn son. LOL Yes that is a perfect place to take a newborn and nourish him. The garbage disposal of human fluids and waste. All the bacteria, germs and other things we fight to keep our little bundles of joy from are all right in there and I for one will NEVER feed my child in a bathroom for any reason. Please people realize when we have our child and we are nourishing that child the breast is no longer sexual but an organ that is used primarily to feed, nourish, and build our childs imune systems with. Give mothers across the countries a break from the cruelty of your stares and hateful comments. We are only trying to keep our children fed and safe from harm. It is nothing against you or anyone else. We are just doing our jobs as mom for our own child. My son is now 21 months old and I no longer breast feed him but I can tell you that I miss the bonding that we had while I nursed. It has nothing to do with sex but with the fact that the time you spend nursing your child is the time no one can take from you and that child. It is something no one else can do for your child but you. I'm not against people that don't nurse their children. It is a personal choice and it should be the choice that is best for mother and child both. If the mother does not like nursing and feels that the child is taking something from her like time or energy she shouldn't have to give them she should not breast feed. You don't want to regret the time you spend with your little bundle but enjoy and for some it is not enjoyable but bothersome. A mother that has no choice but to go back to work can easily become a mom that can regret nursing and that is acceptable. You have to pump every couple of hours in most circumstances and the pain of having to do that can be unbearable. I did that for little more than a month and hated it but kept up with it and I'm glad that I did but it is not the best choice for all moms.

As far Janet Jackson I hope it was accidental because that was an instance where her breast would be sexualized and not used for the nourishment of a child and it shouldn't have happened. Accidents do happen and I think people should get over it.

i think maybe it was the sagginess of her old nipples that got to me more than seeing it in general i mean like its not bad enough that her whole family look like a cloning experiment gone wrong but now we have to watch her old saggy boob flop out on tv too .
