Alloy wheels are a bit lighter than steel wheels. As such, the unsprung weight of the car is a little less, and you'll get a little better ride and handling, but if you didn't know that already, odds are you'll not be able to tell the difference.

Alloy wheels have a little thicker section. They're a little less likely to bend but not much. Alloy wheels can leak (due to aluminum porosity).

Additionally steel wheels are usually stamped, and aluminum wheels are cast and machined. As such they're a bit more uniform and less prone to run-out (wobbling).

One more thing... since brakes are usually made of steel, there is a bit of corrosion that goes on between steel brakes and aluminum wheels that can cause them to be "stuck". This is not as prevalant in steel wheels.

Generally speaking, Steel wheels are made of Ferrous metal and are usually stamped or rolled into shape and welded to form a circle. Alloy wheels are generally made of an aluminum alloy which is a mixture of metals to give strength and other characteristics and they are cast and then machined to a finished shape

Where is the vehicle going to be driven the most? If it primarily is driven on the highway and in a mild climate (IE: Warm most of the year no snow, ice or salted/sanded roads) alloys are great otherwise you are asking for problems down the road. Corrosion, the finish will deteriorate faster and even in the bead area (where tire meets rim) will develop leaks. Steel is more durable in more harsh cold climate conditions. Another option is alloys in the summer and steel in the winter.
