I've studied many different styles and branches and schools, so I have a lot of experience to draw on at the age of 63. Lately, I've gotten really interested in the study of Huna, the traditional magick of native Hawaiians. Their system is fairly simple, easy to understand and careful study will help you more than any other I've seen.
Huna is not a religion, so can be practised by anyone of any faith or of none. It is a study of occult philosophy and the hidden nature of mankind. It's adherents are convinced that it may be older than any religion ever conceived and the ultimate source from which all faiths are derived.
Among its teachings are the idea that there is no sin in anything that does no hurt to anyone else. The saying goes, "No hurt, no sin." As to offenses against God, they very wisely say, "I cannot hurt God. I am too small."
The native practicioners, the kahunas, as they were called are credited with many seemingly miraculous powers: walking over redhot lava barefoot and unharmed, instant healings, ability to influence the weather, ability to predict the future and, when asked, to change the course of the future to be kinder to the seeker. They do not see these things as supernatural, but as resulting from the use of the hidden laws of the universe.
I don't have time to go into the whole theory here, but those interested may do a search on "Huna" through Yahoo Groups and find quite a lot of useful information and advice. Look for the books of Max Freedom Long, the revealer of modern Huna. There are other books that may prove useful as well, but you may find them through the Huna Groups at Yahoo.
I hope this is helpful to your search.

I strongly recommend reading the books by Draja Mickaharic, including his Practice of Magic. It is incisive and simple, like a mechanic's guide to magic. Of all I have read, it is the best and safest. Good night, and good luck.
Please don't listen to any older men who might tell you they are magicians, by the way. It is quite likely they are just trying to take advantage of you and it is very dangerous. Don't tell ANYONE you are studying magic. You must keep it to yourself or you will attract dangerous people.
I say this from experience.

I suggest study of Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Quantum Touch, and Reiki. They are all easily Google-able, and build internal energy. Trying to devise "spells" or little poems is simply tricking yourself into believing that something is real so that your mind will create the change for you. Learning to do so yourself and to control your own energies will allow you to become much more powerful, and you will learn many good practices (including energy healing and some level of martial arts) along the way. Good luck.

You choose how to live your life, you are right. But let me tell you this..I used to work occasionally in a group home for people with schizophrenia. I met one of the clients living there who told me he practiced magic. His problem was not being helped by his choice of interests. I am not saying you will go mad if you practice magic, I just think it is an unhealthy thing for you...

This is not a smart aleck response.
I am serious. You have a problem, your spelling is terrible.
If you make a habit of allowing errors in your regular writing.
When it comes to more advanced things, you will have a higher chance of making unlucky mistakes.
There is a reason people often call working magic, Spell casting.
