The doors and windows are very well secured and for someone to break an entry, they would need to make a lot of noise.So when I hear noises from other rooms, I tend to ignore them and get on with what I am doing.Should I get worried, if it is a ghost can it harm me???

Don't worry. I used to watch Casper. He was a friendly ghost. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Now if it is a poltergeist you should worry. m

Probably not ghosts-old houses shift and move around a bit and make creaking noises as they move. Heat during the day and cooling at night causes even wood to expand and then shrink; and the wood naturally shrinks over the decades so that the nails are not really tight anymore--allowing movement during the expansion and contraction times, and also various noises.
If you do have a ghost, try talking to it. Doubt it would cause any harm if it hasn't so far. We have had one or something like a ghost-shadow or figure that goes down the hall or across the room, sorta looks like an old indian guy. Been here 15 years, just seems to pass through occasionally, never caused any problems. Most of my family has seen in several times. Looks the same night or day, with different lights on, so it's not a reflection from outside.

Most old homes settle, and make creaky noises. If you want to know if it is an actual ghost, put a recorder of some sort in an empty room. They usually tend to visit in the a.m. under natural light, like candles. Plus you do not get much traffic noise, etc.
As far as it harming you, that is only in the movies. They can scare the hell out of you, making you run-trip-fall, etc.
Sometimes it may not be a ghost. It may be a spirit guide trying to get your attention too! Try talking to it, if you come to beleive it is a ghost/guide. You can always ask/demand them to leave.
Now, if you believe in the devil and evil spirits, well I guess you should call the exterminators, exorcist, call a t.v. camera crew, then board up the house and move. :) your doomed.

place decon baits around the house rat size and mouse size then go to a cathelic church and get a bottle of the holy water and sprinkle the drops around the house on the walls and then say a prayer like this god i claim the blood of jesus over myself and my sins and ask your prtection over my life and house and when the sounds come again say i claim the blood of jesus get thee behind me satan and no more demons or ghosts

yeah --probably just the house settling. When I first moved into our house I freaked because of the noises and that's what it was. . . hopefully. . .
