Well what pisses me off about most Westeners is that they think that they are any better than Africans and can give Africans moral lessons.

First of all, in every poor society, there are many children for three reasons:
1) Children are seen as potential income earners and more children (of whom not all will survive childhood) one may make it big and support the whole family.
2) Universally the more educated the women are the less they have children, not only because of ignorance, but income earning capacities, if women make money, they won't have as many kids, as childcare takes time away from other work.
3) Lack of family planning clinics means more children and lack of health care facilities means that child mortality is higher, so having only a few children is seen as risking not having anyone supporting you at old age.

About Western charity, well it's a natural reaction in a moral society, if someone is dying of hunger, one must help him or her. Isn't that the basic assumption of both christianity and islam!!

Africans can certainly look after their continent, but currently there are so many rich westeners bribing officials to exploit the vast mineral and oil resources, no wonder the whole continent is 'corrupt'. Don't forget African countries (apart from Ethiopia and Liberia) were European colonies up until 50 years ago when Ghana got independence in 1957, up to 1975 when the portuguese colonies got free, and 1992 when Namibia got independence, and frankly until the end of Apartheid in South Africa in 1994. Colonisation created the African cronies, when ordinary Africans had no say over how their countris were run, and during decolonisation until 1994 the ruling elites were chosen and supported by Western multinationals and governments, not to forget Soviet meddling either. Please, READ HISTORY OF AFRICA, it's a horrible tale of Western exploitation and complicity of an elite of African both traditional and post-independence rulers.

So care about your own belly, but remember who feeds it.

I do care about Africa, even have a foster child there.
But what I never understood is: when you are poor or starving, how can you have so many babies?
This is the first step. As long as they do not stop having up to 10 kids per family, the problems, the hunger, the pain and the despair will double and double and double each year.
I think Africa´s grown-ups should stop acting like children themselves, they should take responsibility and act!
Then the rest of the world would be more willing to help.

That's a very ignorant and appathetic comment to make! I used to live in South Africa, and you would not belief how much suffering most Africans have to endure on a day to day basis. The governments of most African countries don't care either, they only care about themselves and their poxy little bit of power. I'm sure that if you were in that position you'd want people to care about you and your right to live without constant suffering! Think carefully before being so callous again!

Quite a few people. But not the kleptocrats that are actually in power in much of Africa. They only care about lining their own pockets.

What pisses me off about Africa - they are always looking for handouts, blaming the West for the problems they created themselves, and trying to come here in droves instead of attempting to fix their domestic problems. C*nts. And f*ck that big-nosed git, Bono. And his lice-ridden bumchum, Geldof.
