My father had allowed my nephew to use his 1977 Mercedes Benz while attending college in Charlotte, NC. From what we understand as he was driving back to school the car just stopped pulling without warning. We towed it back home. We have no problem with it cranking or running idle, it runs well, but it will not accelerate. Any assistance is welcomed. Thank you.

Sound like the linkage from the gas pedal to the carburetor is disconnected. Take the air filter off the top of the carburetor and have some one push on the gas pedal You will see a couple of round disks moving. If that is not happening then you have a linkage that is not connected. Look for a rod that should connect to a plate on the carburetor. I do not think that this is electronically controlled on 1977. There will be a spring on the plate of the carburetor. If you are not sure what you are looking at I will take a picture of a similar set up and use some arrows to get you directed in the right direction.
