hiccups are nothing to do with wind, they are caused by poor co-ordination between swallowing and breathing. Normally our oesaphagus (the tube food goes down) has a nice, rythmic, wave like action, when we get hiccups its because it gets out of sync. treating it like wind, i.e. rubbing the back or the belly, won't help, however, sucking will, so either feed baby or offer a soother if it has one. Do not, ever, give your baby sugar despite what the Americans say, plain old water will work just as well.

OK Im a little embarrassed to post this but I really want to help you. Old school Puerto Ricans say if you take snip of thread put it in your mouth to moisten it and put it on the baby's forhead it will stop the hiccups. My son often suffered from violent hiccups it almost looked like it hurt his so here comes my grandma (typical puerto rican) with a piece of thread, and dont you know it worked!! Its worked everytime.

My Son had terrible hiccups and colic. There isn't a great deal you can do. Stop feeding when you hear the wind in the stomach and try get it up before it becomes a problem. Massage there stomach.
They will grow out of it, I know it's a worry but they will be ok in the end.

Is your baby breastfed? Right after my son was born and we were still in the hospital he had the hiccups, the nurse told me that nursing him would help get rid of them. It really worked everytime he got the hiccups I would nurse him and they would stop within a few minutes. I did the same with my daughter, it worked like a charm.

Take advice from your health visitor if they are severe. But I know when my little girl was colicky as a baby I would just use my hand to massage (very gently) her tummy. Just use circular motions. I think just the rythmic nature helps relax them as hiccups can be quite painful.

The hiccups probably bother you more than they bother the baby. Try feeding (breast or bottle, or some water)... a few good sips should do the trick.

I found rubbing my sons back eased them, it didn't stop them, but they weren't as violent. He is 6 months and still gets them all the time. If I make him laugh too much then he gets the hic ups. He even had them when I was pregnant with him, my tummy would jump up and down.

my son is 3 months but even since he was born he gets them a lot and they last like 30 minute sometimes and they are bad sometime I have noticed though if I give him a little more in his bottle or just warm water it helps them going away. Not always but most the time.

When my baby has the hiccups, I feed her. The sucking motion has always made them go away.
