Just push through it. You'll be glad you did. Take lots of breaks, eat some good food and listen to your favorite music, but don't let your mind wander as you read.

I used to teach honors English and I found that some kids loved the book and others hated it. It starts slow, I know, but is pretty interesting really. I believe it is told from one of the kids points of view. They are motherless and their father is a lawyer in a small southern town. He has to defend a black man who is accused of raping a white woman. Also there is a creepy guy who lives in their neighborhood, Bo Radley. So believe me the story picks up. Just stick with it. If you really hate it, you could always rent the movie! It's an old one but you may be able to find it. It stars Gregory Peck. Good luck.

Basically if you belong in honors English you should find this book a page turner. I read it at least twice for enjoyment when I was a teenager. Go back to regular English and stop holding the class back.

Hello, I have included The To Kill a Mockingbird Student Survival Guides in the htmls below. Before you jump to them, please know that you should feel privileged to be able to read this book. It is the only book that Harper Lee ever wrote. I hope you have an opportunity to study the times in which the book was written. Remember an honest man will go to his death for a crime he did not commit.

See the movie first then do a comparison from the book to the movie. What did the movie add or leave out or not explain and why?

You can't make it interesting to read----the author already did that. It's one of the greatest stories in American literature. Give it a chance.

Read quickly, until it gets interesting. Skim over the 1st chapter--lots of books are slow-starters. It will get interesting, I promise.

Make guesses about what's going to happen next. Then read to see if your guess what right.
