I downloaded something called "Recover My Files" and it's very confusing. But I really want to get my pictures back. What can I do or what can I download to get my pictures back?

When you delete something on your computer, the data isn't actually deleted. It's just considered 'open' for new data to be stored in that location. So, those "Recover My Files" programs just look for the "0"s and "1"s that haven't been erased, and recreate it into a file.

However, with a typical System Restore, your computer formats the hard drive, literally erasing everything on the entire drive and starting from scratch. If your hard drive got erased, there is no data to be recovered. :/

Did you do a system recovery or system restore?

If you still have all your programs and personal files then you probably did a system restore. With your system restore, you may just need to keep going back one checkpoint at a time until hopefully the problem is corrected.

If you in fact and are sure you did a distructive system recovery then you have lost all your personal files and programs. Sorry, nothing left to do but cry.

PS. Best to always keep backup of personal data on a
removable disk. Such as CD, DVD, external HD, or quick drive chips.

I usually send my files to one of my internet accounts while my machine is in the shop that way files are easy to recover. Or I put them on CD. I would check your trash. Everything except programs goes to the trash in the computer and you have to physically empty the trash unless you selected for it to empty each time it was full or at the end of each session. You should be able to recover the files there. Be careful in downloading programs: I downloaded on and had to erase my machine.
