well you need a furnace that will heat to about 3000 degress as you omly need about 2600 to melt platinum as for cheap not a chance unless you pick one up on e-bay possably. go to e-bay.com and do a search but i wouldn't advise doing this inside unless you have a very well ventilated room these metals put off a very toxic gas that could kill you even just doing small amounts is dangerous.

At the temperatures you require to melt Platinum and Iridium there is no such thing as a small, cheap furnace. Also this a process that is too dangerous to try at home. Best advice is to buy your platinum/iridium alloy from a specialist supplier, it will be cheaper in the long run.

I have had a lot of success melting metals using an arc welder, graphite crucibles and graphite electrodes. Works best with DC welder. Fill your graphite crucible with concetrates and fluxes to be refined. Ground the crucible or place it on a grounded metal plate. Insert graphite electrode. Stir materials as they are melting. The arc of a welder will produce 30,000°F. Graphite melts around 6,000°F. Platinum and gold melt below 3200°F. Iridium melts around 4500°F.
If you are careful, you can boil off the lesser valuable metals. Use adequate ventilation and do not breathe any fumes.

I don't think that waht you want can be done safely, inexpensively and in a compact space. Those metals melt at such high temperatures, if it was easy, everybdoy would be doing it.
However.... I will provide you with the information you need for a price. Tell me where you are getting your platinum and iridium, and give me a share of it. put the information in your addtional details when you give me the best answer.

I bought a Seat Ibiza 1.4 with the same criteria as you. The tax for 12 months is approx £120. My insurance, fully comp is £146 for a year (4 years no claim) with the post-office. It does eat petrol up when driving round town changing gears a lot, but all cars do. Otherwise very good mpg. I think this type of car is called something like a super mini(?). The boot is very deep but not so wide, but one or both seats come down so a car seat can still be left fitted whilst the pram is in the back. If a simple buggy, it would easily fit and leave room for shopping.

At 4500 C your furnace would not melt those metals, it would vapourise them.
