A friend works for a eye doctor. They are billing people for bills as old as 5 years old. These people seen the doctor and they submited there claim to the insurance and recieved there money but did not bill the patient for the remaning bill. They claim they got behind but some of these bills are 5 years old. most are 2-3 years old. Course all the patients are cussing and holloring at her so she is pretty upset about it. Can a doctor bill this late when it was there fault. When my friend brought it up to accounting they were like we'll when we moved we found old file records. So it is there fault for not keeping up with it. I know if it was me I would be pretty pissed off as well. Is there a limit to how long they can wait to bill someone?

I don't think it's so much a problem with the doctor billing the patients what they didn't pay, but the patients may not be liable to pay at this late date. The statute of limitations varies by state, so your friend will have to check the laws where she lives.
