A little box wrapped up and tied with a bow... with this note attached:
"I took an ordinary box. As empty as can be. I filled it with a special gift. And wrapped it carefully. But please don't ever open it. Just leave the ribbon tied. And hold it tightly near your heart. Because my love for you's inside!"
This brought tears to my eyes... my daughter gave this to me when she was 8... she is now 12 and I will keep this little box forever... unopened.

The gift of experiences - having people share of themselves. Being taken to someone's favorite place, meeting someone's favorite aunt, being surprised with a trip to a factory that makes products I love, having someone go to the trouble of picking me up at the plane...
All these take time, thoughtfulness, and planning. It means that someone cares enough about you to listen to your ideas, your heart's desires, and to share of themselves with you.
You can always buy yourself a diamond ring; you can't buy the love and attention that comes with true friendship and devotion.

For Christmas 2004 my brother and his wife (from Texas) flew my daughter and I (from Canada) to Florida to go to Disney World. They joined us in Florida and paid for EVERYTHING. The 4 of us had a wonderful time together.
