My fiancé and I have been living together for over a year; we have separate bank accounts. He pays most of the household bills (I moved into the house he owns), but I contribute a fixed amount each month by writing him a check. After we get married next month, we will look into combining the finances - he's an old-fashioned type and feels that everything should be "together". I don't have a problem with that, he's financially successful and responsibe - although, after being single for several years, I'm kinda used to handling my own finances.

My "significant other" and I have been together almost a year. He makes more money than I do, but I pay the phone bill and the cellphone bill and I also help buy groceries and soaps and stuff like that. I also do all the cooking and cleaning and do all the laundry and that makes him happy. :-) We have seperate bank accounts, but if I need money from him, all I have to do is ask.

Well we take turns like if i get pd first i pay the bills, but really its both of our money because we both share an account. My husband gets direct deposit and i usally cash my check to pay the house pymt and utilities. Then his money that's in the bank is used for the credit card pymts and etc.But its not an argument of who's money goes for what as long as the bills are pd it's fine and after that we use any money left for ourselves.

i do not suggest having the same bank account because it could get rough if something goes wrong. I think that the bills should be split up equal, and who ever makes the most money should cover what the other one can't,

My husband has always paid for everything. We have a joint bank account that HIS check goes into and I can write checks against that account, withdraw money etc, then I have my own separate account that my check goes into. It is my money to do with as I please. My hubby feels it is his responsibility to be the caretaker and provider for this family.

since life is not fair, I feel personally responsible to make my surroundings as fair as possible.
everything that you share is split 50/50.
each has their own bank account and one shared account where you deposit money for the household needs and expenses. this way you have money for yourself, feel independent and you both still get all your need done.
You are there to lean against eachother and when one needs help-help is there.
