I'm not afraid of the dark, and I'm an introvert...
I have a feeling (not an obsession like some people) that there might be other life out there. It may not be intelligent or whatever, but there may be some microbes or similar living happily "somewhere".

We are the only ones in the Universe (Earth and it's life). That is what I believe. I don't even understand why anyone thinks creatures are going to be found on some other planet. This is it man. I don't get your last question. You suggest that those who assume there is life elsewhere are afraid of the dark?? I think they are curious that there might be life elsewhere. Furthermore, those who think we're alone are probably just afraid of what creatures would be found--ugly, destructive ones or friendly ones. As for me, I think we are THE LIVING EARTH.

I think it's possible that we are alone. It's also possible that someone is out there. We may not even recognize it if we come across it. There is no way for us to know now. Some people may assume there is life elsewhere because they are afraid of the dark, but other people may just be accepting that it is a possibility, and it is more interesting to imagine life than to imagine no life.

My old theory was : The universe is both infinite and random with an infinite amount of matter/energy in it, distributed at random. This gives the conditions needed for every form of life that is possible to actually happen - ergo, not only is it possible for there to be inteligent life to exist elsewhere, it MUST exist elsewhere on an infinite amount of planets.
Unfortunately, the curved space theory puts paid to the infinite universe & infinite amount of matter/energy. Which turns the certaintity of life on other planets into a probablility instead.

It is not being afraid of the dark. For me, personally, it doesn't make sense that WE are the only beings. Seriously, how did us humans become so lucky? For myself, it is just unfathomable that in this immensely vast universe that there is nothing else out there. I am not meaning what Hollywood deems as being an alien. But at least some other microorganisms.

I do :)
And yes, there might be people that are both afraid of the dark and that they might be alone, not only in their personal lives but also in their lives as a member of the human race.

And what happened to the probability theory? With the billions of inhabitable planets, just ONE of them must have intelligent life!

I agree. Until it's proven that we're not we have no reason to believe it. The only way life can exist on other planets is if there is liquid water. That's what makes earth so special and unique within the universe.

With the universe being unlimited in size, it's arrogant to think that we're the only ones in it.
