The Crow Road by Iain Banks is my current favourite. I've read it loads of times and still love it. It just sums up a certain time in one's life, of being young and not sure yet of who you are and where you're going in life. Prentice is such a great character, and I also love the murder mystery element. It also, for me, sums up the 'zeitgeist' of the early 90's.

Too many to mention really, Andrew Greeley's novels, Maeve Binchy's , Dan Brown's, John Jakes, Wilbur Smith, the Harry Potter Series, James Patterson, Nelson DeMille, John Grisham.
I like good character development, a plot that keeps moving, some historical references, some humour, something that makes me want to stay awake all night and read until I've finished it.
Books that just take you away .

I have read all Sidney Sheldon books and I like them. He is a good writer. I like the way he tell his story. Once you started reading it you won't let go of it till you finish. Rage of Angels and Master of the Game are my favorites,
I also like J.K. Rowling's style. I only started reading her book last year and I read them all now. Just like the other Harry Potter fans I am also waiting for the last book.
Other authors whose books interests me are: Dan Brown, Jeffrey Archer and John Grisham.
I am more on books which are written in a way that from the very start to finish, you can not put it down because its interesting and you want to know what and how it ends. There are books that at start it is already boring and I don't really read these books.

I love Augusten Burrough "Running With Scissors" because I'd find myself laughing at the most appalling things and ability to do that is important to getting through life.
I love "Curious Incident of a Dog in Night Time" by Mark Haddon. I fell in love with the main character Christopher. Love may be different for some people, but it's real.

My favourite author is Dean Koontz. His horror books and thrillers are riveting with elements of humour. His later books (2000 on) have a religious element, in that good always triumphs over evil, and the characters aren't contrived, often they are regular men and women, who are reluctant heroes and heroines. He doesn't have any bad books, a reallly big accomplishment.
My favourite book is Life Expectancy, by Dean Koontz. It is a completely impossible concept, but that's what makes it so fun. It celebrates the love of family and the destruction of evil.

Karyn Slaughter, her books based on murders in a small town called grant county, it tells how Jeffrey Tolliver, chief of police investigates the complicated and gruesome murders, and Sara Linton, county coroner and peadiatrician, they are divorced but have just started seeing each other again, and it gets more complicated as the books go on, each book continues from the last, she tells the story in graphic detail, making the reader feel the characters are real and they are reading someone's diary, i fell in love with the characters and can't put a book down

I've got lots of favourites but at the moment my favourite books are "the dark magician series" a trilogy by Trudi Canavan. they're really dramatic and have all the components I look for in a book - magic, war & hate, love, suspence, drama, etc. and there's a great twist in book 3, it turns out the bad guy is actually good, and the real bad guys are far more dangerous, and the main charachter falls in love with the original "bad guy", but then he dies, oh I was soo sad when I finished the book!

Wild Swans - it was a book that completely changed my opinion - its about 3 women growing up in China ending with a woman that flees communism and Mao to live in America. Its wonderfully written and extremely informative. I don't normally like political books but this blew my mind and I couldn't put it down - you really care about the characters and want to find out what happens next.

I think my favourite author at the moment would have to be Robert Anton Wilson. He challenges the reader to question every belief that the reader assumes 'is' real. He has great fun in playing around with your brain. And if you start to play along, you may become more human, rather than just another domesticated primate. But this opinion belongs to me and may not be to everybody's taste
