There is a strong perception held by many people in UK and Europe that US government forighn and Energy policies are the most dangerous current risk to world stabilty and sustainability. It is true that not everyone in a democracy agrees with the government of that state, but as a democracy the population must take some collective responcibilty for it's actions.
Added to this heavily marketed american culture (read macdonalds starbucks coca cola ect) has been aggressively exported to many parts of the world over the last 30 years, often to the detriment of local cultures.
My oppinion is based on experience in the UK and Europe and I suspect that this attitude would be held more strongly by people in other parts of the world (e.g. south america, middle east) where American influence has had a much more direct and negative influence, while American cultural imports are more alien to the local cultures of each region.
Sorry if this is the 'obvious' reason but in my oppinion these are the main causes for animosity towards current international animosity towards americans.

Funny how people don't like Americans, but love what America has to offer. I've traveled the world over, and I have always been welcome where ever I go. Individually, Americans must not be so bad.

And of course, American Money. Everything is based off of it. No one says "what is that in Euros? or Yen?" Pounds? Yes. But everyone points to the Mighty Dollar. Even Iran and Hezbolla use dollars. Silly isn't it? Saddam had hundreds of millions in US currency...

People often tend to dislike what others have and since the appearance that Americans have everything the trend is to hate. It is really envy. Or rather these days, popular to hate America. Doesn't seemt o matter what America has done to help a particular population, people or anything else. Hate is popular these days.

Did you know that Americans, not the government, give more money to international relief agencies than some countries are worth? Not that it helps, people that benefit from that money still hate us but once again, love that hand out.

They bring in a lot more than Tourist dollars and maybe if some of those wet liberals tried living in some of the 3rd Woprld Countries they are quick to accuse the US about they would have a different view. I dont hate Americans or agree with everything they do but I would rather live under Bush than any of those tinpot African dictators or Muslim tossers.

Well i don't hate americans, i am english and i live in New York with my american girlfriend so i personally don't hate americans. But i know somw people who do but i would not call it hatred, the english just like to make a joke out of america sometimes because we see things like american football as Rugby with pads and therefore a game for girls, you call football soccer and you dont really play it, we see your president and he cant spell or even say a sentence coherently, and we are a small island country really so we dont like bigger countries and we think all americans are arrogant. Its not hatred but the english like to take the piss (make jokes). This is just my opinion and you are asking a very generalised question but i hope this kind of makes sense

Do you really want to be loved for your money? If you think we are that shallow...

OK I admit there are some here who hate you bloody yanks, and I don't know why, although I admit I met one gentleman who didn't like how you fought in the war against the Nazi's. He of course was an expert you understand. We have a number of self opinionated people here. I don't suppose you are entirely free of them either.

Now if you want to be loved, and that is quite a natural reaction . well be yourself and let others take you as they find you, and don't let us lot worry you too much

since when do the english hate americans??? i have always had a brilliant time in england and been treated with nothing but respect and as for the comment that 'we get everything'--sorry honey, but i work for everything i have and always will. Nothing has ever been given to me!--and one more thing, don't assume we all love our president...but for now he is all we've got and nothing we can do til the next election...all i can say is i proudly did NOT vote for him!!

And what's the obvious?

Anyway, I don't hate Americans just as I don't, couldn't hate a whole nation of people! I just think sometimes the way the USA comes across can be a bit arrogant. And their attitude to Britain can be rather patronising.

It is not a question of hate of the race but the polices as a race they permit their government to implement, and they are so naive they call it demoracy.
