Use low wattage bulbs, make sure there is adequate insulation in the attic, turn the thermo. up a few degrees if you are not going to be home, change filter for a/c regularly and turn the lights of when not in use. Its so hot here this time of year its tough to save, the a/c is what really gets you.

Make sure all your appliances are new energy star appliances including your water heater if it is electric. If your water heater is old it can make a huge difference in your electric bill. Also you can put your water heater on a timer so that it only runs while you are home. So for example mine goes on at 6am and off at 9am then back on at 5pm and off at 10pm that helps a lot. Also some areas charge more if you use your electricity during certain hours of the day make sure that isn't the case where you are at. Last but not least make sure that the seal on your refrigerators and freezers are good around the doors and that where your dryer is vented is cleaned out well. The more lint in the vent to the exterior of your home from your dryer the longer it takes to dry your cloths.

If it leaks seal it! Around windows, doors, where pipes and electrical connections come through the wall, look everywhere!
If it has space, insulate it! In attic, in the walls, any area that lets the heat in, or out!
Don't cool or heat rooms you don't use! ( What is the point?)
that is it! Look for where ( In Texas) the heat come in from!

Only put on the lights in the room you are using. You can even buy lava lamps they don't use a lot of electricity.

Did the Native Americans have air conditioning, or the people at the Alamo? I think not. Air con should be banned immediately. If you don't like the heat, move to Alaska.

Turn off what you don't need, set your A/C thermostat between 72°F and 75°F, use low wattage bulbs...or if necessary, use fluorescent light bulbs.
