you place the thread and empty bobbin on the pegs on top, and run the thread through the gears on the top part of the machine (not through the needle) to the peg holding the bobbin. At the back of the machine you should be able to disable the needle and this automatically enables the thread spinner (which should be holding the bobbin not the thread), then slowly hit the presser foot, so that you don't tangle the thread.
