If there's a moth getting in my nerves, I just get a handheld vacum, vacum it, and go outside and empty it out. It doesn't really hurt them, they just fly away.
Or you can be evil and leave it trapped. It might crawl back out, though, and then you'll just have the same problem again.

If you want to get rid of it but have it still live use a bug net to catch it and then move it somewhere else and let it go, but just don't touch it's wings because there is a powder on it that helps them fly.

You can't possibly "kill" a moth and then in turn, let it live. You can do either/or.

Catch it gently and take it outside and release it.
P.S. If you have a cat living indoors with you, HURRY UP, because the cat WILL have it, if you fail to rescue it.

Turn your main light off, and put a lamp on. It'll go to the lamp, then you can to choose to liberate or execute. I vote for freedom.
