So my aunt and uncle are suing my cousin and her boyfriend because her boyfriend got in a car accident with their vehicle before they signed the title over. They have absolutely no money, and have already tried credit cards and loans. My cousin is 19 and I believe her boyfriend is 21-22, so they're both still young, so they don't have a lot of options. What are their options to come up with the money? Also, how does the court system work? They don't have the money, so how does the court go about getting money from them?

Look up Legal Aid in your state they might help. There might be wage garnishments, and a lien on future wages.

Who's side are you on, your aunts or your cousin. What if that was your vehicle and some family member was trying to beat you out of the money? I hope they burn your cousin and take what ever little they have. If that were me, I would try and ruin there credit preventing them from buying anything again until they paid me back

They would have to work it out or take it to small claims court. Even if the judge decide in favor of the plaintiff doesn't mean they will ever see a dime. Even though they should come to some kind of legal agreement. If the car is insured and the insurance have to pay for it then they will go after who is responsible.

No money? Well that should scare the lawyers away.

Too bad the family can't find a way to settle; maybe the parents don't like the boyfriend. A lawsuit is a great way to scare him off. Actually I can hardly think of a better way that's legal!

The court can garnish thier pay checks or will set up payment arrangements. I don't quiet understand why they are going to sue them if they were going to sign the vehicle over to them anyways? They should just work it out that is silly family sueing family.

I think there is more to this story than you are being told or are telling.

It makes no sense that a parent would sue a child over a vehicle that they were signing over title on anyway.
