The genre is considered drama, and as for the veracity, of course it is *fictionalized*, but rumor has it there was a couple that originated the story back in 14th century Italy. Shakespeare and many authors and poets before him definitely added their own spins, though.

Romeo and Juliet is a fiction but maybe it had happen the same story to somebody else but in a different way.

Yes it is. It is a play that was created by a famous English Author, in the time of Elizabeth the first queen of England, who happen to be named William Shakespeare. He wrote a lot of plays and poems. Some of his plays were not always gloomy some were funny like Taming of the Shrew which became a Broadway musical called Kiss Me Kate which tells about the story of how a writer goes about turning the Taming of the Shrew into a musical and problems he encounters trying to bring that particular musical to the Broadway Stage.

sure--but shakespeare (along with many other authors and poets) got many of his ideas from other writings and such. the base of Romeo and Juliet is from an old Italian story. Will S. lifted the basics of that story and voila--Romeo and Juliet!

Shakespeare adapted a well-known fictional story when writing his play. Even his so-called "history" plays contain a good deal of fiction. He was writing to entertain, not so much to inform.

Yes it is if you're referring to the play by William Shakespeare. According to what I've learned, he based it on a certain Rumeus and Julieta.However,they were not couples (if I am not mistaken). I suggest you just visit these links to be sure.

Well, it's a play, it isn't meant to be read, it's meant to be acted out on a stage. It's fiction, but wouldn't it be amazing if somewhere in the world, sometime in history, a similar situation happened? I like to think it probably has...
