Spoiling them & encasing URself & them in debt.
Why do kids need Credit?
If they can't afford it, make them save up 4 it.
That teaches them more about Moneys value than any Credit card could!
That's assuming they do have an income/allowance.

i am giving my 13 yr old a credit card.. BUT .. it is a special bank card.(not a debit).. that has a limit on it... and i can keep adding each month. however... this is a test to see how she handles it. i will give her a certain amount she can use each month.. she has to keep track like a check book. and can not zero it out... or she loses it. today unfortunately... there is a need for young people to have money and carrying around cash is not good. they go to lunch and shops/.. the mall... the book store..etc etc... however my 13 yr old is a honor student... runs long distance track... and just had her sellf portrait painting selected among 250 other art pieces . so as long as she keeps this up i think a credit card..would be teaching responsibilty and saying how much we appreciate her.

It is irresponsible for you and them. Children should only be allowed debit cards based on the bank account where THEY have saved and earned the money. Credit causes nothing but problems as, for the most part, they can hardly handle a checking and savings account. Credit cards allow them to spend money they don't have and won't have for YEARS. If you bail them out you don't help them learn responsibility. My daughter is in college and I will NOT allow her a credit card. Since she is over 18 she can still get one but she knows Daddy will NOT bail her out.

It's bad enough giving children over 21 credit cards.

giving ur children under 21 a credit card is asking for problems
they will never learn how to be responsible if everything is given to them how are they ever going to learn how to save money or get a job and earn their own money if u are always their to give them what ever they want

How about they get one themselves? I wouldn't GIVE them one, but if they are over 18 it is very possible for them to get one in their own name. I've had a credit card since I was 18, and slowly, as my credit built, I was given a higher credit limit. It taught me responsibility with money, and the value of money

not a good idea, if they lose the credit card, you'll be in trouble. you can teach them financial responsibility by recording the amount of money spent a month on a book.

The only way I would do this, is if it was the card you can put a set limit, prepaid card. Even if they are responsible. That way if something does happen. The card holder isn't going to be in debt.
Also making them responsible for putting the amount back in. Payments of sorts.

spoiling them. They need to be responsible and learn to build credit on their own. That even means applying for it.

I think that it depends on the responsibilty of the child. Why are you giving the credit card and not having them apply themselves. If you give the card expect to pay if they don't.
