Not all DVD-player recognize DVD+R so be careful! This is because the first standard was DVD-R (introduced by pionner back in 1997, while DVD+R was introduced in mid 2002).
So if your DVD-player was made in this period it's clear it doesn't support DVD+R.
Even changing it's firmware won't change a thing! (for DVD-players firmware includes updated drivers, improved reading sequence..)..

buy a new dvd player. I just got a BURNER/PLAYER for TV recording and playing DVDS made by LiteOn for $119 at Costco and it does everything and plays both + and - R and + and - RW and burns so that it will play in both, etc. Yours must be old. Good luck.

Not if your player doesnt support DVD+R media! Check your manual! To begin with, get rid of them!

+ read, write, play will not play on - players if I remember right. It's been so long since I learned that, I never needed to use that information, so there was no need in memorizing it (until now).

Give me the player half the price. and buy a new one.
Second Ask the company to buy back and get a new one with required option.

Fix it with a new one

DVD-R and DVD+R need different optics to read them

No way, it is of different DVD type; +R and -R are different.
