It is a hacked job in the State of California, and yes, someone got burned in a different sense, not the usual credit-stealing stuff.

There can be no expectation of privacy with email. It is not protected like USPS First Class Mail.

it is the same as open someones mail that is not addressed to you. if they choose to press charges you could face hefty fines and possibly jail time.

Nothing I would think, esp. if they voluntarily gave you their password. If you hacked into their system....that's another story.
