I need to respond to an ad in the newspaper, Is a buisness letter the right type of letter to write of is there another. But either way what is the format/guidelines for a buisness letter?

Try this template:

[Company Name]

[Street Address]
[City, State/Province Zip/Postal Code]
August 19, 2006

[Recipient Name]
[Address]
[City, State/Province Zip/Postal Code]
Dear [Recipient]:

[Type the body of your letter here]

Sincerely,

Name

If you don't have a letter head:
You put your name, address and date on the right upper corner.
Then continuing below that on the left you put the person's, then company name followed by the address, 2 empty lines, then Dear (whatever)
before printing it out make sure it is nicely centered on the paper.
If you want to add a reference (RE:) put it below the
Dear ....

Re: Subject

Beginning of text.....

If you have and use Word, there should be a template for that!
