I think that Zidane wanted to go out of international soccer competition on a high note (winning the World Cup) France will definitely not be as good with out him because he controlled their offense.

As in all sports, someone will succeed him in their own way and make a name for himself. Zidane, like many great players made a name for himself when he succeeded a great player. It's unfortunate that so many will remember the last moments of his playing career in a way that will undermine what he has accomplished before he hung up his cleats. Yes, France will be weaker, but sporting history has examples of teams that overcome the loss of a star player and go on to win.

zidanne is the best player that ever lived, hes such a horrible man and a magician on the field! what a ledge! the reason he headbutted the guy was because he knew he needed to live football with something to remember him by.

zidane will be missed because he is one of the greatest players ever but france still have a huge chance to win euro2008 and win a medal or even another world cup in 2010 because patrick vierra wil be a good captain and they still have henry, ribery and other good players to help them.

he will seriously be missed, because he was an awesome player. he was the best player in the final, although I think Italy did deserve to win. I believe that he should've been MVP of that match until the ridiculous head-butting incident. that was very immature.

He will be missed. The light shining off his bald head worked well to blind the other team's players.

Seriously though, he was a great player and motivator as well. Just has a bad temper, he's lost it in other games too. He's just human.
