It is a horrible, hideous, fatal idea. Not good.

The people do not exist to serve the government. The government exists for the benefit of the people.

Actions which benefit the state, at the expense of the people, invert the fundamental purpose of government. Not only are they counter productive, but they are the first and most blatant step towards a tyranny.

I don't understand your question. An individual's rights are VERY important in our system of justice - that's why we don't have black clad men in masks running around at night beheading people with steak knives.
"Good for the State" is only good if it is also good for the people. The people may not realize it's for their own good and ***** and moan and blame the President, but it IS true. Currently, a perfect example is the government's ability to drop in on your cel phone calls and e-mail, the two tools the terrorists use the most. The Judge who tossed this one should be tossed off the Bench. Together with the traitors who divulge this type of information to the general public - which includes the people who are determined to destroy us.
I don't think my e-mails to my mother are of much interest to the NSA - nor are my cel phone calls back and forth with my son - and the government can listen all they want.
It's only people who have something to HIDE that have a problem with this. And the so-called civil-libertarians who'll fight anything logical just to get their name in the paper. This MUST be allowed. The Patriot Act may have some provisions that are hard to swallow - but it's better than the steak knife option...
I do believe that during World War II MANY personal liberties were limited - some to the extreme, i.e. the Japanese internment camps. I'm not saying they all were right, but we were at WAR! What these bozos don't realize is that we are at WAR NOW!! Just because some Nazi isn't busting in your door and dragging you off never to return doesn't mean it's not a WAR!
During World War I my great-grandmother fiddled with our last name so it woudn't, in her mind anyway, look too "German." She didn't want her children to continue being harassed. They were 99% Irish. lived in an Irish neighborhood, but somehow ended up with a German surname. By the time she was finished with it - it could be ANYTHING! Her kids didn't get bullied anymore for being "Huns."
So, what's your problem with the NSA dropping in on your cel phone calls? Do you think they're interested in what my mother had for lunch, or do you think they're surfing for legitimate, possible terrorist communications? They don't have time to check out the lunch menu every day. They're too busy trying to protect us - and, so far, they've done a damn good job. Let's see what happens now that they can't use this tool...

Usually not.

"The necessity of a social justification for all activities and all existence is now taken for granted. There is no proposal outrageous enough but what its author can get a respectful hearing and approbation if he claims that in some undefined way it is for the “common good.” Any Rand - Anthem

Sounds like fascism to me. It also sounds like there is an agenda behind the question somewhere. Next time just spell it out like everyone else.
