Real gold does not usually cause an allergic skin reaction when worn, nor does it turn your finger green if it is a pure gold ring. It won't tarnish or fade when wet, as fake gold will.

You have to take it to a jewellers, but you won't find much genuine gold jewellery with out a hallmark to be honest.
