in the movie when hannibal killed the 2 cops and escaped, he did ,what appears to be an enormous task undetected. he killed 2 cops, strung one of them up and disemboweled him, changed clothes with another, cut his face off, carried dead cop to elevator, put body on top of elevator, positioned it so face not visible, returned to room.

this is a lot to do for a 60 year old man.

the question is: in the book, was it like the movie? or did they add details in the movie to increase the drama of this scene?

You can almost follow the movie with the book word by word. The only thing in the book is a love scene between Buffalo Bill and the girl whose body is on the morgue with the diamonds on the back. There's also a scene which explains why Buffalo Bill was a transvestite.

I read the book long ago and don't remember the daetails. I think that movie is following book pretty much and the only difference ist that Clarisa in the book hooks up with a guy from the morgue (or labaratory) - I saw movie long ago, also.

I'm an "avid fan" of the Thomas Harris books. In the book he escaped by cutting off the face. I don't recall him displaying the other officer as was portrayed in the movie.

The only difference I remember from the book to the movie was that the cops were referring to the killer as wanting a "vest with t*ts."
