you can ask the same question in a different way: with the billions spent in US defense and the profits of private organizations with offshores and reconstruction agreements, why is there even unemployment in the US?
what you said is simply argumentative!
are u trying to imply that Iran is to blaim for that?so you are involving even those people you claim to be poor in the argument, or you forget they as well are Iranian?or does the argument only matter to bash the country as a whole?
if you want to blame someone, blame the institutions which try to isolate whoever does not comply with their requirements of economic submission.
In North Korea, who has been suffering with the embargos?Kim Iong il or the people?
In iraq after 1990, who suffered with the embargos?didnt more than 300000 children in iraq die until 1998, due to embargos imposed through the UN Security Council?
And why are there people being cut hands in Saudi Arabia, the big Brother of the USA in oil matters?and why are there poor people in Saudi Arabia?
And why isn't there a democracy in Kwait?despite all the money?why arent there only rich people in Kwait?
and the last question, if America is a democracy, why their citizens, the best ones, seem to be powerless to influence the politics?
i think this is enough answer. You talk about the pain of the iranian. Look what you did to solve the pain of Iraq.

I stayed in one of the Island in iranian territory which is a destination of people changing their visas fron the United arab Emirates. while staying in the Island, I planned to try putting up a decent business consulting some seemingly so friendly people that trying to help and advise me about the whole procedures etc.etc. and because they treated me with utmost respect, I beleived them and started the proceeding. and the process comes like these. Hey Mr. lkjhfjk, is this what I have to do? oh yes Mr. oijtli, you have to klkgfhisi;ktjoikd hknw ckuken fugmn f,kjgdyfvmn njk, this in order for you to get your business & working permit. and blah, blah, blah. in short after the much hyped lkmnefijhbfuilslkjlho, iurhfgmrdna and kjkjrfhouhgbuj. I was allowed by the genius guy who conferred with me and I started the ;oijgi busines. after 1 mo. of operation, I ask what happened to my application. he said i need not to worry becuz I can operate the buz. as I want, wihtout being interferred by the governing police. until I found that, I had to do a monthly renewal of my stay in order to keep myself alive and that span of time is already too late for me to make a move as I already invested my hard earned money for every thing I need to run my Buz. a year of operation was seen by the people behind the garranteed planned (takeover)approval that the buz. was a success. and suddenly I was declared an overstaying alien and accused by the same friend that I helped. of running a business without a permit. the buz. take over had no sweat for them...
although playing vocal English music is strictly not allowed, dancing also is banned. friendship between locals and foreign is strangely regarded as crime of possible capital punishment. some deciet people in Iran are wise business operators and they do it always forcibly, to especially weaker individuals... a 40% poverty estimate is absurd though. the real percentage is 62% now, apply this answer to your quest. logically...

They will not have hunger pains that you will ever hear about. Their nation is not like any western nation where news roles out freely, where discourse is public, and were the poor have a say about anything. They are selling their oil to russia, china and possibly europe; and using it to build a war machine capable of eliminating Israel.

They are oppressed and do not have the capacity to question their government so they will remain in poverty. If that government is removed though, expect a civil war and thousands dead.

Because the Mullahs in charge of Iran need to take frequent trips to the west to visit brothels, drink booze, do drugs and remind themselves why they hate our culture so much.
This is quite expensive when 20% of the population is Clergy and they all need to travel often.

because the government is so corrupt.....do you think this is new? Look at Cuba....before Castro they were a vibrant country, tons of tourist, making money over fist, and everyone lived great......no, they are generally miserable....though they don't know any better......since it has been so long....it is normal......

It's the same disparity that existed in the antebellum south... extremely wealthy plantation owners then poor white people... it is sad that most racist white people are being bamboozled by rich white people....

In USA oil is for Dubya, not for people. They have to pay high prices for gas.
