I don't know, but Gilroy, California is reputedly the Garlic capital of the US (or maybe the world, not sure).

I am not joking. I have seen mountains of garlic in the city of Karamonu in central Turkey.
The area is known for producing the very best garlic in all of Turkey, no mean distinction, as Turks often eat raw garlic cloves as an accompaniment to their meal. Have seen it done many many times.
A favorite, necessary, Turkish dish is made by mashing garlic cloves in a bit of salt. When it is nearly macerated, they stir into yogurt. This is served on all sorts of things except desserts.
Can't live in Turkey--or visit--without encountering it.
Utterly delicious. Utterly simple.
The people of Kastamonu also happen to have the most distinctively shaped noses in all the world!

Gilroy, Ca
They have a huge annual garlic festival. I think it's already happened this year though.
